PRINCES ROYAL & ROYAL SUSSEX HOSPITAL
The Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital provide an emergency department, cancer services, cardiac surgery, maternity services, and adult and neonatal intensive care services, and cover an area from Haywards Heath to Brighton and Hove.
As part of an ongoing redevelopment contract for the hospitals, Kier appointed Shockledge for structural engineering services for the upgrade and refurbishment of these two sister hospitals to improve their operational facilities.
Improvement works to Princess Royal Hospital included the addition of CT scanner facilities as well as GP streaming equipment to improve the A&E department.
The Royal Sussex County Hospital, which dates back to the 1820s, was upgraded to deliver compliance with current fire regulations. This required the addition of new emergency egress stairs, structural alterations to create improved access throughout the building and façade modification works.
