MULBERRY
Project Mulberry is a development to create 770 new student rooms, office space, affordable housing, retail units, a health care centre and landscaped public space.
The main challenge for the site is constructing the building over the Jubilee underground line. By ensuring the foundation piling was kept outside a defined exclusion zone, the ground level foundations had to be designed to span the building load over the exclusion zone and safely into the piles. To facilitate this load path a deep transfer raft is required at ground level.
Shockledge’s involvement on the project with Bouygues UK was as the Structural & Civil designer, taking the design from the planning stage and through pre-construction prior to Kings College London suspending the project.
