A Grade 1 listed Georgian building in Fitzrovia, London, this private residence is being extensively refurbished and extended to accommodate a swimming pool, gym, and sauna at a new basement level and a new guest suite, cinema and kitchen/terrace within a new build rear mews.
Shockledge was appointed by Banda Property from Stage 3 to 5 as structural and civil engineers for the project.
Confined by existing buildings to either side of the property, the excavation and construction of the basement had to be carefully considered to minimise the impact to the adjacent grade 1 listed structures. A detailed 3D construction sequence was developed to clearly communicate the intent for these works to the local authority and to the contractor undertaking the works, along with a basement impact assessment and ground movement assessment to evaluate their impact.
By working closely alongside James Gorst Architects, Shockledge has been able to provide a scheme that delivers the clients’ vision for their luxury home while ensuring buildability and logistics were accounted for.
